Play

We went to Lake Padden this morning to stretch our legs and were delighted to see this group of avid "kayak polo" players seeking to land the ball in their respective floating baskets (see extras).

I marveled at their ability to move and turn so quickly in their small crafts, all the while wielding their paddles in multiple directions as they attempted to capture the ball and score a goal. No one capsized, and the mood was playful, rather than cutthroat competitive, as so many sports seem to be. You can see that another view of the play in Phil's blip for today.

Yesterday we headed south to visit my daughter in her lovely new place, and then to be among the celebrants at Phil's son's 50th birthday party (see the birthday boy and his lovely dog on Phil's journal). The drive to Seattle was quite stressful, due to very heavy rain and drivers with no lights on and a complete disregard for keeping a safe distance behind the cars in front of them. The drive home was much easier, thank goodness!

We're going to the opening concert of the Whatcom Symphony's 40th season in a couple of hours, and I'm really looking forward to "losing myself" in Bernstein's Overture to Candide, Beethoven's Concerto for Violin in D major, and his Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67. Such music will fill my heart and soul, as well as my ears.
