London Day 8

I had no real plans for today but this is how it unfolded.

Walked into Westminster and looked round the Jewel Tower - an English Heritage property I have meaning to see for decades.

Went to Westminster Abbey for Matins.

Walked down Whitehall to Horse Guards and then took a stroll round St. James's Park.

Arrived in Trafalgar Square in time for the opening of the London Diwali and managed to get a front row position for the Parade and Garba dancing.

Took the tube to NW1 looked round the fascinating Wellcome Collection including the spectacular Alice Anderson collection of everyday objects (including a full-size 1965 Ford Mustang) "mummified" in fine copper threads.

Had a look round St. Pancras Station - it's always a favourite, then a walk up to the Regent's Canal to sit in the sun and listen to the music.

Stopped off at Leicester Square and caught a glimpse of today's celebrities - Depp, Cumberbatch and Caine - who were arriving for the premiere of "Black Mass". The light was poor and it was a bit of a jostle for position.

Back to Dolphin Square for dinner and then packed for home later tomorrow.

25,190 steps
19 kilometres

Oh my aching legs.
