Beam me up

The giant telescope is a section of the StrathWonderwall project of 2014 which saw acres of unadorned concrete of the Graham Hills Building (originally a utilitarian office block) decorated with art to reflect Strathclyde University's history. A huge telescope was once located on the roof of the university's original building, known then as the Royal College, until university status was awarded in 1964.
I think this is such a clever 3D effect on a flat south-facing surface, enhanced by the sunshine and blue sky today, together with the colour highlights of the purple and red provided by the people. All the artwork was part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations, combined with sprucing up for the Commonwealth Games.
