In the woods

A lovely afternoon spent in the company of the delightful walking Marj. So many times we have said we must arrange a meeting and never quite got round to it. We did see each other at two blipmeets earlier in the year and at last today managed to get together to have a blipmeet of our own.

Lunch in Gilsland at the, to be recommended, Samson Inn and then I was introduced to the woods at the back of the Gilsland Spa Hotel. Splendid woodland around the steep cliffs of Irthing Gorge. Not the brightest of days and by the end of the walk it was gently raining and we were both a bit bedraggled. But a great afternoon nevertheless. We even made it to the Popping Stone, traditionally used for courtship and marriage proposals. As legend would have it, Sir Walter Scott popped the question here!

A very 'posed' picture, but I did like this bridge over the Irthing and, of all my pictures, this one showed the Autumn colours the best. (See the extra picture also)
