MonoMonday:Travel

Thanks to Nickimags for a great MonoMonday theme this week.
I am currently travelling across the US and this is a good example of how they used to travel in the 1970's.

We had a great day, started off with a trip to the top of the Rockefeller Centre for classic views of the city.
Next a walk in Central Park.
Saw where the elite live on the upper West side, including the building where John Lennon was shot.
Then we ducked into Harlem. Although it isn't the dangerous area it once was, it is a far cry from its affluent neighbours a couple of blocks to the south. I'm no socialist but it's a bit hard reconciling $100,000,000 apartments with homeless beggars on the streets a few blocks away.
We took the second half of the Downtown bus tour this afternoon and then the night tour this evening. It crossed the bridge into the Brooklyn with fabulous views of the city lights. The Empire State Building, clearly visible from many spots, was lit up in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness.

I had noticed how casually most people are dressed here but finally found some men in ties - all having their shoes shined. That's my extra for today.
