Totally absorbing

There are many worse places to be when the sun is out, and today Ocean Village on the South Coast was perfect.
Movements in the marina are always fascinating to me and countless visitors who come for a drink or meal at one of the marina bars and restaurants, or simply chill out on the waterfront. No matter how routine the movements might be. And you can bet your life you don’t have to wait long to see craft on the move, whether arriving in the marina, sailing or simply someone working on board while a yacht is moored on a pontoon.
This is marina life which is mesmerising as much to the tourist as it is to the enthusiast.  To many it is totally absorbing.
Whether or not you are a sailor, in any marina you can feel an affinity with those who sail, be it for sport or leisure.

The Royal Southampton Yacht Club runs both cruising and racing programmes from this marina at Ocean Village as well as training programmes. It is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the country, having received its royal charter back in 1875 and its principal trophy, keenly fought over each year on the opening day of the famous Cowes Week regatta, was presented to the Club by Queen Victoria.
