Wanaka Tree

Fell out of bed at 6.15am this morning, just so we could go take some sunrise pictures of the Wanaka tree.  It is only a five minute walk from our hotel.  We were joined by a couple of other tripod wielding photographers and the occasional passer by with a camera phone.

After returning to the hotel for a shower and breakfast, we drove the 50km out to the end of the road at Raspberry Creek, much of which was on unsealed roads.  We got many views of snow capped peaks - see the first extra.

We bought lunch from a cafe in Wanaka and ate it admiring the awesome clouds over the lake (second extra).

For the afternoon we took the a nice light stroll up Mount Iron.  Ok, I lied, it was very steep and very high, and it took us ages but the views were well worth it!

We then returned to the centre of Wanaka, filled up with petrol for our drive to Te Anau tomorrow, and then ate takeaway fish and chips on the lake front.
