Things are looking up!

Today I was in Glasgow Botanic garden for a national meeting of the BPS - the British Pteridological Society. The BPS was founded in the Lake District in 1891 and became the focal point for fern enthusiasts throughout the UK.

We had a series of presentations during the morning and after lunch were shown around the various indoor collections - this is the glass dome of the Kibble Palace, a glasshouse originally erected by John Kibble at his home at Coulport on the shores of Loch Long. In 1871 Kibble agreed to have the structure dismantled and moved by barge to Glasgow where it was reconstructed in the Botanic Gardens. It was made much larger at the time of the move with the addition of the large circular dome 150 ft in diameter and with other improvements. It has more recently been restored at a cost of £7 million.

My extra picture today is of some sarracenias, or pitcher plants, in the Kibble.
