Milford Sound

Today was our Milford Sound trip.  We had a five minute walk from our hotel to the Real Journeys office where we boarded a coach for the 120km drive through to Milford Sound.  The coach was glass roofed, and we were glad of this given the snow capped peaks visible above us.  We stopped at various places along the way including Mirror Lakes (see first extra) and we arrived at the sound in time for our cruise.

We were booked on a nature cruise, and this was two hours on the sound, up one side out to the Tasman Sea a little, and then back in along the other side.  Along the way we saw various waterfalls and seals up close.

The main blip shows one of the views we had in the sound.  We struggled with scale all day - if you look very carefully at the photograph you might be able to see some white dots on the water.  These were the ships we were taken around the sound on!  It really is an awe inspring place, at a very large scale, and we definately recharged our "Awesome" levels today.

Our two hours on the water was over too quickly and we boarded the coach once again to return to Te Anau.

After arriving back we jumped in the car and drove a short way back along the road to Milford Sound to get some shots of the hills in the mist, see last extra.
