Quayside

I never really seem to have sufficient time to spend in the charming Georgian town of Lymington on the Hampshire coast, and my visit today was no different.

Time was when it was part of my end of week routine to spend Saturday morning mooching around the town’s street market, but of recent years much of Saturday seems to have been swallowed up by the needs of weekly shopping and there has been little time to drive the 19 miles across the New Forest.

Shame, because the town on the southern edge of the New Forest holds lots of fascination.

It is best known for its yachting and sailing interests and you only have to walk by the quayside to see the full extent of boats moored in the river estuary.

On the way to the quay, you cannot miss the enchanting cobbled hill at the bottom of the High Street with its quaint shops which leads to the quay itself. I go back time and again and if I choose the right time of day, and the right day, there’s always the chance of picking up a fresh crab which is a joy.

No such luck today! Which seems good enough reason to head back across the Forest this weekend.
