Autumn Leaves

While the vivid hues and colours of autumn are magnificent, there’s just one thing that detracts from the splendour of the fall.
Well, thousands actually — falling leaves in my front garden. Not to mention on the drive, and in the back garden.
Not just one pile  like this. There are three similar piles of swept up leaves in the drive, six bags filled with them in the garage, ready to take to the tip tomorrow and by the time it began to get dark, as many again it seemed on the grass once more.
Raking and sweeping leaves and acorns this time of year is a never ending task, all thanks to two oak trees in my garden, and one across the road in a neighbours’ garden. Not to mention the beech trees in the small woodland area next door.
When we moved here we didn’t give a second thought to the trees apart from the relative element of privacy they provided. The downside of that we didn’t even consider — yet this autumn task of clearing leaves seems never ending. And it will be for the next month at least.
One thing is for sure, if or when we move again, we will be very conscious of the number of trees around us and their proximity to our garden.
Now, I must load the car again for yet another trip to the household waste depot  with another load of leaves!
