On the pitch of the D Y Patil stadium

Mumbai - Day 5

Another awesome and packed day. We left the MCA hotel early to go to old fort area of Mumbai. Here we were met by Akash our guide for the morning. We had a walking tour around what is know as the old fort area of Mumbai, we saw many of the colonial buildings, incl. CST or the former Victoria Terminus. However, we also learned about the Indian families who initiated business relations with the British ruler and became known as mr. Ready Money (we saw his house, Ready Money mansion) and mr. Petit(of the Petit library). We admired the buildings of Mumbai University, the High Court and the amazing amount of people playing cricket on the former esplanade.

After another delicious Indian lunch at the Worli school, we visited (much to the delight of the girls in the group) the Phoenix mall. With purchases in hand everyone headed back into the schoolbus and back to the hotel to freshen up. It has been sweltering hot and sticky today and at the end of the afternoon rain threatened...

Our evening activity nearly didn't happen as in Nerul it did rain hard. Nerul is the location of the D Y Patil stadium that hosted the Indian Super League match betwen Mumbai City and Goa. Thankfully the rain stopped in time for the match to go ahead! We had an amazing time watching Mumbai beat Goa by 2-0.

After the match we were kindly invited to have dinner with Dr. Patil in the skybox, which was delicious for most, but somewhat spicy for others. The best part of the night though was when asked if we could take a group photo with Dr. Patil, he suggested taking the photo on the pitch - wow! The students not only ended up taking the photo, they also were allowed to kick a ball around on the pitch. This ball was later signed and given to us by Dr. Patil. An amazing end to yet another great day!
