Oxford Hook ' Ladder

It's tractor Tuesday and here is a biggie. the Oxford Fire Dept. hook and Ladder is always parked outside the fire department in Oxford, NY... Always.
That's because for years it has needed some kind of part that is too expensive. No matter how many Friday night Bingo games they hold they cannot get enough to fix this old thing. And when Oxford has a 2nd storey or higher fire, the hook and ladder tractor/truck has to drive from the closet station 8 or 9 miles away.
Last year there was a kitchen fire in a 2 storey house. The old houses in the village are built very closely together. So houses on each side also started to burn while everyone in the neighbourhood, the police, some fire crews just stood and watched and waited for a hook and ladder to arrive. In a hurry it takes 20 or 30
minutes.  Village life...ho-hum...

And while on the subject of fire... the extra photo is of the burning bush (Euonymous) in full afternoon colour. It grows behind the public library right next to the Oxford Fire Department and the big hook 'n ladder truck.
