Scottish Tree of the Year

The result of the "Scottish Tree of the Year" competition was announced at a reception in the Parliament tonight.

One of the six finalists was a Giant Redwood in Benmore Botanic Gardens in Cowal and the Head of the Gardens , Peter Baxter was there to pick up what turned out to be a highly creditable second place.

However the winner of the accolade - and the Scottish tree which will compete to be European Tree of the Year - was Glasgow's Suffragette Oak.
