It's All About The Women

This picture shows an artist called Anne Morrison being interviewed by my friend, BBC Scotland arts correspondent, Pauline McLean.
The scene is the gallery known as Modern Two at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh.
The painting behind Anne is called Catterline in Winter and it was painted by one of the giants of twentieth century Scottish painting, Joan Eardley.
Anne is Joan's niece.
Pauline, Anne and I were being given a very privileged peek behind the scenes of a new exhibition called Modern Scottish Women: Painters and Sculptors 1885-1965.
It opens this Saturday.
Our guide was the exhibition's curator, Alice Strang, who has spent the best part of the last year immersed in the world of 45 artists; many of whom have been consigned - until now - to a footnote in art history.
I'm going to be talking about the exhibition on BBC Radio 4's Front Row programme on Thursday night.
Spending tonight reading up on the remarkable life stories of these pioneering women artists. Every single one has a story behind them.
Alice says that she and her colleagues been calling the exhbition the 'who knew?' show and that is spot-on.
Some might says it's patronising to have such an exhibition - the gallery could never get away with a Modern Scottish Men exhibition.
But I say why not? It's about time these artists are given their place. The men mainly got the glory - often supported by these women - while they were alive.
'Mon the women!
