Sunhalo

It is very rare to see a perfect sun halo but we were fortunate to see one for about an hour before the clouds obscured the halo which was almost directly overhead, so not easy to focus upon. Like the more common sundogs, the halo is formed at an angle of 22 degrees from the sun. It is due to microcrystals formed by water vapour at a very high altitude and when liquid passes through the crystals a halo is formed.
