Fishing on Dam at Ndola Boatclub

Photographed at the Boatclub in Ndola, the only Entertainment Centre for expats in our town. Friday Lunch is our "outing" for the week, when a few families get together and have lunch here, the quality quite good!

Opposite the dam you can see the Plant of the lime and cement factory, the main cause of all the allergies and lung irritations, the pollution is incredible and there is just nothing we can do about it, because it belongs to the Government and they are excluded from legislation regarding pollution.

The local people lay out nets on the dam, their mode of transport, a tree trunk, hollowed out by hand. One man stands in his "Boat" steering it with a long stick, while inspecting the nets. They catch tiny fish, called Capenta, which they dry in the sun and sell by weight on their Local Markets, it is soaked in water before cooking it.

Their staple diet consist of maize porridge, which they call "Nshima" and "Relish", which consist of green leaves and vegetables, grown by themselves, and once in a while they afford themselves proteins by cooking "Capenta", but only a very small portion per person.
