Silage pit

Well, the team carried on working until 11 pm last night and tried to continue this morning but the new leys proved too wet and the ground was becoming damaged with ruts so we decided to leave the rest of them. T will do something with the cut grass depending on how much rain we get in the near future.

The mountain of grass in the pit has been rolled and flattened by the tractor and is now ready to be covered with plastic sheeting weighed down with old car tyres. The grass will then ferment over time ready for feeding to the cattle in the winter. Unfortunately the quality will not be very nutritious this year as the grass is too old so we shall have to alter the diet to allow for this.

Yet more rain is forecast!
