The Green, Sherborne

A hot muggy day with a strong breeze in the afternoon. All the cars were covered with a fine pale dust this morning. This is usually from the Sahara.

This afternoon I drove to Sherborne to collect the material I had ordered last week. Not being domesticated with a sewing machine, I must now find someone to make these arm covers!

This is the Green, an area at the top of Cheap Street where the main road turns into the town centre. The tall building at the back used to be a coaching inn and since then it has become a boarding house for the Boys School and now it is divided up into flats. The middle building of the terrace in front is our favourite restaurant for high days and holidays, also called The Green. Next to that on the right is a small bakery with its own cafe. The Abbey, unusually, is situated at the bottom of the old town. That is the way history has unravelled over a millenium.
