Postcard from the Iris Garden

Back blip from Thursday

I had a early start as my cousin Mary and myself were having a day in the country. We stopped and looked around our great uncles house in Little River and took photos for our family history book. The house has a lot of our family history attached. Aunty Nancy's mother and father got married in the house.. People who have followed my journal well know who I am talking about.

We had a wonderful lunch and then a drive around the area stopping off for some walks. On our way home we stopped off at the Iris Garden in Motukarara. In the weekends they have their Victorian Tearooms open. It is also a wedding venue. At this time of year it must be amazing to have a wedding there. There is two wonderful lily-ponds and the water-lilies were just coming out.

The breaded iris were just amazing and in so many different colour combinations.. as you can see in this collage and there were so many more as well. Mary came home with two plants and she brought one. Mary's ones were the ones you see in Bottom Left and Middle Right. My one is the one in the Middle on the Left. Loved the middle one but that wasn't for sale.

It was sad  to hear that the Iris Garden is being sold and the place goes on the market this weekend. The Iris Gardens has been run by couple for over 19 years and sadly her husband pasted away in July. We were talking with the lady and she said she is sad to leave but she can't manage it on her own and there were too many memories there for her.
