It was an early start this morning. Up before the milkman with Jen and Gitama to head down to Merewether Baths for the sunrise. A lovely start to the day as the sun rose out of the Pacific and it stayed with us through the morning as we wound our way up the Hunter Valley and into wine country. Sorry I can't share more but the iPad only seems to want me to post one per day. Naughty iPad...

Unlike the Yarra Valley on my last trip the vines of the Hunter were bursting with green growth and the fruits are beginning to form. A beautiful vista awaited us around every bend. Our first stop was the Audrey Wilkenson vineyard. Almost every vineyard has a cellar door, a place to taste and buy their produce and most are works of art themselves. My extra shows the cellar door of the Wilkenson vineyard. The jacaranda in the foreground isn't as bursting with colour as the many trees that dot the landscape but the purple flowers are just striking against the more common green.

The Sculpture in the Valley exhibition is running just now. The contemporary sculptures are located in the vineyards around Wollombi. There were some amazing examples dotted throughout the area. A yummy picnic lunch of leftover lamb and quinoa salad split the visits but our final stop in the exhibition was to Wollombi Wines where this little truck was parked outside it's cellar door ready to deliver that large order...

If you ever find yourself in Wollombi itself, I can thoroughly recommend the Hunter Valley Gelato Company's fine ice cream, especially the mint chocolate chip and passion fruit! ;-)

The weather turned a wee bit grey and pleasantly (ignore the protestations of my Aussie companions) cool this afternoon so instead of heading down to the shore and partaking of fish'n'chips it's a home cooked barbie instead.

It's a tough life! :-)
