Remembrance Sunday

Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.

We attended the Remembrance Sunday service at school this morning. It was moving and thought provoking, with beautiful hymns being sung including a favourite, Greater Love Hath No Man by John Ireland which the choir sang with great fervour. It was emotional looking out on the sea of boys in their black blazers punctuated with red poppies in their button holes, and thinking how young so many soldiers who die in the wars are. Their lives are over before they have even begun.

Thomas played the Last Post with great perception and musicality - it was quite evocative to hear.

They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old:
age shall not weary them, not the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
we will remember them.
