Hay-rake

After yesterday's burst of sunshine, we were quickly back to dull grey skies today. I decided to go out for a walk in the morning, as the forecast suggested this would be the better part of the day, but it soon started to rain, though fortunately it wasn't heavy.

I'd gone in search of more grassland fungi at Castor Hanglands, and found some nice species, including four waxcaps - parrot, meadow, yellow and snowy - and many yellow fieldcaps.

These horses are part of the conservation team, helping to control rank species like wood small-reed. They seemed to be enduring the rain stoically - and were mostly grouped round the derelict hay-rake, which has been on the site for at least thirty years.
