A Day of Rain and Wind

It was a battle against the strong winds and heavy rain on the M25 driving to Mum's in the morning.  Thankfully I arrived in one piece, if a little damp after getting my stuff out of the car boot.

In the evening we went along to the church for a performance by the Essex Concert Band in aid of Friends of St Luke's.  It's amazing how versatile a wind orchestra can be - they played so many different styles of music, from the Big Band era through to stage, screen and radio.  My favourites were their tributes to Count Basie and Duke Ellington.  The encore was the very moving Nimrod by Elgar, which we chose as the final music for Dad's funeral in January.  How I wish he had been with us at the concert - he would have loved it.
