Migrant in Moscow

On the Sands

A stark grey autumn sky today, no sun, very little light.  This is the Church of the Transfiguration on the Sands in Arbat.  The original stone church was built in 1711 on a sandy field - hence the name.  Immortalised in 1879 in Vasily Polenov's "A Yard in Moscow" (which also features on a postage stamp commemorating the 25th anniversary of his death in 1952).

This is what the Church looked like in 1882.

Blipped in winter on December 12, 2014 and last autumn on October 17, 2014 too.
