Rule Britannia

Strong winds. Heavy rain. Dark.

November in Scotland.

It's Monday as well.

So far, so good. Right?

There is good news. Yes, tomorrow is Tuesday. A long weekend in Gamersheim coming up, and the weather is nice in Bavaria (that part at least).

On the other hand, sounds like Dr D is on her last legs. German GPs have to take turns doing weekends "on duty". Something Scottish GPs gave up decades ago.

As well as running actual surgeries twice each day (which anyone in the area can turn up for without an appointment and be seen) she has to do home visits when needed to say nothing of 2.30am phone calls from care homes to advise of a death.

(Actually, a death is good news. GPs are paid much more for signing a death certificate than for reviving a patient.)

Anyway, Dr D's turn on duty this weekend coincided with Gaimersheim's (first) quota of refugees turning up to live in the high school gym. 200 of them.

Although expected, the municipality hadn't arranged medical care for them. Dr D had to do that - without pay. Remember, these poor people aren't registered on the healthcare system, don't speak German, have no money, and don't even have a travel voucher to get to a pharmacy or the hospital.

One of those times (pretty frequent, being honest) when it's embarrassing to be British. I'm sure bombing Syria some more will help sort things out. No. Really...

The Blip is the best I could do. New car. A wee A1 diesel. Excellent on emissions, apparently.

It was made about 3km from Dr D's house.
