Birthday meal

Happy Birthday, Carl!

A big change from a year ago when we celebrated in St Petersburg, but tonight's meal was streets ahead of the Russian restaurant, good as that was. We'd met in Gilbert & Wright's for a few pints and a tequila or two, and intended eating in The Bay (over Walters pub), but our reception there was really off-putting and the menu was unchanged from the last time we'd been there, so we got up and walked out.

I'm glad we did, because otherwise we wouldn't have gone to Tribes instead. What a terrific experience! Sadly, I don't remember what Carl had, but I was utterly delighted with my blackboard-special choices. Both starter and main course were superb. We left there well satisfied and met up with Carl's cross-the-road neighbour for a few more pints and into-the-morning chat back in Carl's place. All in all, a really good birthday celebration.
