Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, That Man!

Partly because we wanted a day to explore the area, but mainly because it is The Man's birthday today, we delayed going home until tomorrow. We had collected a number of leaflets and studied our maps and planned to walk all day. I had been kept awake all night by a cough and the noise of heavy rain on the caravan roof so wasn't too eager to move early. The rain continued so we did some shopping in the morning and waited to see if the weather improved.

In the afternoon we went out in dismal weather for a walk around
a disused gravel pit which is being reclaimed for the benefit of wildlife. The Man is a keen ornithologist but the more unusual wildfowl were keeping themselves well tucked up and out of  sight and the otters had the same idea!

The warming thought was that, back at the caravan, the oil-filled radiator was on, as was the slow-cooker. We were greeted by the smell of Chilli Con Carne and were happy to get back in. The CC rally had all packed up and gone but through the evening noise continued. We had left behind bonfire night days ago at home but here, in the Midlands they made the celebrations last all weekend.
