The tomatoes we transplanted a few weeks ago are starting to grow big and strong, and so it's time to help them move up in the world. We spent all afternoon trellising the 23 rows of tomatoes in the back field, weaving orange bailing twine in and out between the plants and securing it to metal t-posts that we'd pounded in previously at 4-plant intervals. As they gain height, this process will be repeated as necessary to keep them from drooping over, until they top out around 7 or 8 feet. Lots of work but also very gratifying--it was so thrilling to discover that they are well into fruiting already.
