The New Girls

Well, the new girls have moved in. Currently nameless, we have a little Speckledy to the fore, and a huge Light Sussex to the rear. Picked up from a place near Rosewell, we saw Ecodad et famille there ready to pick out their first ever chooks - looking forward to the blip of that.

Our girls have settled into the back section of the big run pretty well, seemingly happy at not having to fight for food with dozens of siblings. The now-old girls in the front bit have bodily been trying to get a closer look. It'll be a wee while before we mix them, though in 3 or 4 days the new girls will get out to free range for the first time, so we'll see how they get on. They should have names by then...

Has to be said the Lavender Bantams she had as well were gorgeous.

Here's to an easier settling in period than two years ago when we got Ruby and Skye, but our first two chooks, Miss Hennypenny and Margot, now both no longer with us, took great offence to sharing their run (hence building the extension that now means we can effectively separate them until all is settled). That said, the Sussex could make a play for top chook in the pecking order, taking on Skye.

p.s. Ecodad, planning on getting on the Sunday ride.
