And Tuba Makes Five

Our newly created quintet enjoyed another rigorous workout this morning as we dug into Mozart's Quintet in Eb for Piano and Winds. Last week our oboe player had a cold, so John (at far right) filled in on violin. Today, he filled in for the bassoon on his tuba (and frankly, tuba sounds pretty good in that part). Come December, we hope to have our "real" bassoon player with us.

Allow me to introduce the group:
from left to right we have Ruth on clarinet, Debbie on oboe, Jane on French Horn, me on piano (too heavy to hold for the photo), and John (Jane's husband) on tuba. We are fortunate to have a seasoned pro like Jane, who has taught and performed all over the world, to help guide us through the intricacies of this piece. All three beautiful movements are beginning to click together very nicely, and with any luck, we might be ready for an informal house concert in a month or so.

Note: this is the earliest in the day that I have ever submitted a blip post!
