Summer Snow?

The poplars at the Taylor Dam Reserve are now in full leaf. Amongst the several varieties of poplar trees in the area are some Cottonwoods.....Populus freemontii. They are beautiful trees but I am very glad we don't have any in our neighborhood. At this time of the year they shed their seeds contained in cottony masses, easily airborne. In fact today there was a brisk westerly breeze at the lake and the air was full of tiny fluffy fragments. It looked as if it was snowing. In places the fluffy material resembling cotton wool has gathered on the ground and from a distance looks like summer snow.
