Spout Lane (Sunday 22nd November 2015)

I stopped off at Spout Lane briefly on my rounds this afternoon, looking for a blip. There was nothing special going on but it's always a pleasure to visit the canal. These short days don't suit the hours I'm normally out and about but I managed to catch a little daylight and get to Waitrose before the four o'clock Sunday curfew.

No spoilers, but still in shock after Dr Who last night. I don't mean to over-dramatize but this is the worst thing to happen since the beginning of time itself...! ;-)

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
James Brown - Hot (I Need To Be Loved, Loved, Loved, Loved) (1975)
I couldn't help noticing when I heard this on Cerys Mathew's unmissable 6 Music show this morning that it had the same riff running through it as David Bowie's Fame, his collaboration with John Lennon from 1975's Young Americans album, which cites Carlos Alomar as a co-writer. So who 'borrowed' from whom?
It turns out that Carlos Alomar had used the riff with his own band on his version of an old song by the Flames called Footstompin'  after leaving James Brown's band in 1974 (in a dispute about being fined). He had performed the song with David Bowie on TV in 1974 prior to lending the riff to the song Fame, on which he played, and James Brown had seen the TV show and utilized the same refrain for his own composition Hot (no writer credit for Carlos Alomar this time).
