~Survival Is An Art Form~

~Joshua Tree National Park~

Survival:
The act of surviving, usually under adverse or unusual circumstances.
To survive or endure, usually were others cease to exist.
Preserver, to live in difficult conditions, with the constant threat of death.

Art Form:
The principles or methods governing a craft or branch of learning.
An artful device, as trickery or cunning or learning a craft.
A skill used in conducting the pursuit of existence and living.

The Joshua Tree received its named from the Mormon settlers of the southwest in the mid-1800's. They thought that the up stretched limbs of this yucca tree reminded them of the Biblical figure Joshua, when he reached his arms skyward in prayer to God.
A plant can grow to a height of 50 feet. The roots of the yucca can stretch out and down over 40 feet in order to gather moisture. They can live for hundreds of years, a few can survive for a thousand years.
A true desert survivor, in a land where survival is a true art form!
