Damage

Two days ago i wrote about the major damage the container vessel Sealand Illinois sustained. On this picture you can see how serious this damage really is. The Russian vessel hit the Sealand Illinois at her port side stern. The vessel was ripped open there from the bridge to her stern. Not only the complete port side aft has to be renewed, also the cargo holds behind the bridge are heavily damaged. The red structures you see on her deck are the guides to lower the containers into her holds. You can clearly see how much is missing after the yard removed all the damaged parts. All open parts were originally covered with blue side plating. It is all damaged and removed. It must have been a full ahead collision. Ships coming in from port side should give way to your vessel, so there might be a chance that the Russian vessel was responsible for the collision. But you have to know all facts to be sure. Anyway as far as our own vessel concerned: we've completed our maintenance period this afternoon and will leave tomorrow for intensive sea trials and bollard pull tests. If everything is ok we'll leave for Cabinda tomorrow night. Finally!
