Mackerel sky

There was a beautiful dawn - a sky filled with ripples of cloud that were initially flushed with the softest pink and gradually became suffused with gold. Ben was a bit late up today, so we ended up chasing the college coach, which meant my plan to nip down to the river to catch the end of the sunrise was scotched!

I managed to escape to Barnack Hills and Holes for a while later in the morning, and watched the mackerel sky recede, to be replaced by glorious blue. It seemed to be a day of ripples  - what I think is a snowy waxcap had curiously crenellated gills (see extra) - possibly an effect of the recent frosts?
