The Lady in the Van

What do you suppose two senior citizens got up to this Thursday morning at 11am?
No, not what you are thinking, and certainly not eating scones while drinking coffee in a café. No, His Lordship and I threw over the traces and went to the pictures. We hardly ever go to the pictures, so it was quite an occasion.

Now to clarify, we did not sit in the back row- HL has maintained even during our courtship that he goes to see the film, not to indulge in hanky panky.
I also go to see the film, but am often overtaken by the extreme need to close my eyes, thereby missing large chunks of the plot. As this always happens in the afternoon or evening, I was hopeful that a mid morning showing would be different, and it was....... well maybe they did rest for 10 seconds, but I swear that was all, and I was aware that HL had his shut for longer although not to the snoring stage.

The film in question was the Lady in the Van by Alan Bennett. We saw the theatre production in London years ago and so enjoyed it that we wanted to see the cinema version.
It did not disappoint-Dame Maggie Smith was a fantastic Miss Shepherd and Alex Jennings made a convincing Alan Bennett.

No scones were eaten, nor popcorn, but we may have sat in the dark licking ice creams. This may well be the way forward for Thursday mornings.
