Earls Colne 1943

Shift at the airfield today with a bright sunny start ... Which got progressively worse with the wind picking up and rain due to the cold front! However we did fly all day stopping when it got dark as the wind was then getting too strong. Took a picture of this painting from the clubhouse of a B26 which would have been based at the airfield during the war. This airfield was just one of many USAAF bases hastily built when the Americans joined in.
Love the history of these places and also love spotting them from the air when flying around. It always amazes me how aircrew found their way to the correct field!!
Number 2 son came for a visit tonight to have Chinese with us but decided to leave before we settled down to watch Strictly!! Oh well ... Lovely to see him!!
