Old Pals

It was Armed Forces Day today and there was a parade of cadets, current serving and veterans through Princes Street Gardens. The participants met on King's Stables Road prior to the parade. The gentlemen in the Glengarries are veterans of the Gordon Highlanders.

Formed in 1794, the regiment recruited principally from Aberdeen and the north-east of Scotland. The regiment fought in India, South Africa, Egypt and both the Peninsular and Napoleonic wars. 21 battalions were raised and fought in the First World War while the regiment fought in France, Malaya, North Africa, Sicily, Italy and north-west Europe during the Second World War. Post war, the regiment saw action in the Malayan Emergency and Northern Ireland. In 1994, the regiment was amalgamated with the Queen's Own Highlanders to form The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons). The regiment became The Highlanders, 4th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland (4 SCOTS) with the restructuring of the British Army in 2006. Wikipedia

Last day of the festival tomorrow. Another 3 film day to finish, after which I have some serious catching up to do. Just as well I have Monday and Tuesday off! Thanks again for your comments over the last couple of days when I've not been able to spend any time replying or commenting myself.
