Timbuktu

Think of this light in the trees as a counter balance for the account below ........

I watched a superb film last night called 'Timbuktu'.

It is set in Mali in a small rural community where a group of Daesh affiliates have taken control and imposed strict Sharia rule.

It portrays the disastrous affects  of this rigid interpretation on the indigenous Muslim social structure which  has existed here peacefully for centuries. It's customs and social norms having evolved and become interwoven with the natural habitat across a diverse population. The idea of Islam meaning 'peace' is embodied in this community.

Daesh, with their harsh, blinkered sledgehammer fervour are blind to the community's ties and subtleties. In the name of religious purity they destroy the bonds of civilisation and peace within this culture with tragic results.
