Drysalters Yard

Today's the day ....................... to go for a paddle

Not through any sort of choice, you understand - but this poor lady had just climbed out of her sitting room window, and she had no option but to hitch up her skirt and wade through the flood water towards the unfortunately named Drysalters Yard.

The bright sunshine today just served to mock the deluge of the past few days - and last night in particular.  The town of Kendal was still under siege today with every exit road - to the north and south - impassable to traffic at some point.  And everywhere you went, the evidence of where the flood water had managed to get - and the misery-to-come of those who would have to restore and renovate their property, was obvious.

It was a strange experience to walk through the streets that you know so well - but which seemed to have taken on a new shape when filled with water.  And the other thing that you realised was that even the slightest rise in slope (that you had never previously noticed) was often enough to keep a street out of the flood.  That was certainly the lucky case with son Tim and Melanie's house.

The last shot I have included below is the sun going down behind the new lake that was - Kendal Cricket Club ..................
