Santiago, Chile

Just about to jump on a night bus heading south to Pucon (Chile is such a long country).

We've enjoyed our two days in Santiago. We did a good walking tour that told us all about Chile's history and the Pinochet regime which was really interesting and we got to see all the main sites. As capital cities go, Santiago is actually very nice and doesn't feel too busy.

One thing we've noticed about everywhere we've been in Chile so far is that there are lots of dogs. They all seem wild but are very well behaved. Here we learnt that the dogs are very important to the people of Chile and that they are almost community dogs in that everybody looks after them. They even knit them jumpers in the winter time. The dogs are allowed roam free because that's always been the way, going back to before there were cars!
