Soup

Mr B arrived home late last night, and was delighted this morning to discover I had made winter soup.  A pot like this would simmer on the back of the stove all winter when I was a kid (I'm sure in fact it was several pots of soup, but the fact that it was in the same pan made it seem like a continual feast to me).  As it happens, I wasn't that keen on the winter broth of my youth, but I've discovered that if you leave out the barley, it's great.  So, a mountain of veg, including plenty of cabbage, local ham (I don't have the courage to ask a butcher for a 'soup bone') and a splash of vermouth just so I feel fancy.

Very warming.
