The viewing mound

Whittington Castle in the village where I live, had an ornate medieval garden at the back when it was in it's heyday. There is a 700 year old  viewing mound that is thought to be the oldest of it's type in Britain which was used for looking down on and admiring the garden. There have been ideas to recreate the garden but this would be a big and expensive undertaking - perhaps one day!

These steps go to the top of the mound where there is a covered viewing platform so that visitors can imagine what it would have been like all those years ago.
