Battle

It feels like a bit of a battle getting into work - I was shattered by the time I got in. Eamont Bridge closed again - no news yet but with more rain the pressure on all the infrastructure continues. Brighter forecast for tomorrow thank goodness.

Here's the first verse of Wordsworth's  'Resolution & Independence' to keep things ticking along .... not so sure about the 'pleasant noise of waters ....'. It is interesting with all the current climate change talks that Wordsworth's leechgatherer talks about the changes he has noticed in the decline of leeches in his lifetime ....

There was a roaring in the wind all night;
The rain came heavily and fell in floods;
But now the sun is rising calm and bright;
The birds are singing in the distant woods;
Over his own sweet voice the Stock-dove broods;
The Jay makes answer as the Magpie chatters;
And all the air is filled with pleasant noise of waters.

.....

He with a smile did then his words repeat;
And said that, gathering leeches, far and wide
He travelled; stirring thus about his feet
The waters of the pools where they abide.
"Once I could meet with them on every side;
But they have dwindled long by slow decay;
Yet still I persevere, and find them where I may."
