Cairo Rain

When I turned off the shower this morning the sound of water drumming on flat surfaces continued. Rain! And lots of it! I made a dash to the café to start work and realised that, at least in this part of town, Cairo has no water drains in the street. The stuff just lies about and evaporates. There's the not insubstantial matter of the Nile being a stone's throw away which must act as some sort of natural collector but it's still interesting to see how need, or the lack of it in this case, drives necessity/saves infrastructure costs.
