Spalding carillon

 There are not that many playable carillons in the country but Spalding has one of them.  It is a shame it is not heard more often.The clock and carillion were originally housed in a brick clock and bell chamber on the roof of the South Holland Centre in Spalding. In 1998 the clock and carrillion were incorporated into a specially designed glass tower as part of the new South Holland Centre. The Carillion consists of 23 bells all with memorial inscriptions, mostly to those fallen in the two World Wars. The bells were originally played manually through a keyboard or through a music roll. Tunes included The Lincolnshire Poacher and Greensleeves. In 1991 a new keyboard was installed and a tape recorder which allowed the carillion to be played automatically, or live.
