Art in Alloa

Got the keys to my new studio in Marcelle House this morning and afterwards I called in have a cup of coffee with Karen Strang.
 
She was busy working on this painting, a contemporary reinterpretation of Seurat’s famous Bathers at Asnieres, set in an industrial suburb on the River Seine north-west of Paris.
 
   
Karen’s painting though has a political twist. It’s based on the industrial Fife coast of the river Forth and in the background is the defunct Longannet power station, Scotland’s last coal-fired power station, and it will close in March next year with the potential loss of 230 jobs.
