Twitty blip

I am awful at identifying birds (or plants for that matter). When I lived with my friend Sharon, she bought me a lovely book to help me identify birds, as she got tired of my "sparrow or pigeon" mindset. I have however left that book in the UK, in my Dad's loft, and somehow googling it isn't as good. So, come on clever blippers, can anyone tell me what bird this is? My guess is a type of finch, but I don't even know how many types of finch there are. It sings such a pretty little song in the early part of the day, it makes me smile every time I hear it.
