For you, Franz ...

As a student many years ago, I spent a year in a small town in Germany. I went to the bank there to open an account and was interviewed by the manager over a cup of coffee. Where are you from? he asked. Sheffield I replied. Ah, he said, I spent some time there years ago.
How nice, I said
I was a prisoner of war there, he added quietly.
He was not offended in the least and said that the time he had spent there was actually not unpleasant.
At the time I wasn't even aware that there had been a PoW camp in Sheffield. This concrete track is pretty much all that is left of it now. We passed it today on a walk to discuss next year's programme for our Walking Out group.
